I attached a UHD tv to my Aspire ATC-605-UB11 via HDMI, but the tv remained blank. Any ideas, please?

if you right click on desktop and choose screen resolution, do you have 2 monitors listed?

No, there simply IS no picture - the screen is blank. (This model is a desktop, and I'm using it now with my older HD tv connected via the same HDMI cable.

    oh ok.

if your UHD has multiple HDMI input, probably you must select the one where your desktop is connected; also i would check HDMI cable compatibility, maybe your UHD uses one of the latest protocol and the cable is too old.

I did try two different ports on the tv, selecting the correct port each time. I thought a cable is a cable is a cable. So, older cables (which this is) probably won't work?

Hmm; I guess I better check the tv docs for the correct cable protocol.

OK, the tv's manual said "high speed" cable is required, but doesn't say whether 1.4 is sufficient, or if I need to go to 2.0

I'll have to get a new cable this afternoon. If it works, you can bet I'm going to give you kudos, buddy.

hmm; looks like, to get a decent price, I'll have to wait for an online order to be delivered.

    Please bear with me.

The only caveat I have found is that I must physically disconnect the HDMI cable from the computer while it's booting up. If I do not (yes, I tried just leaving the monitor off, but that didn't help), the monitor remains blank.

I always prefer to connect TV after system boot, just to avoid handshaking issues on protocols.
