I have an Acer Iconia a1-830. When I finish using I lock it. However when I want to use it again it just wont unlock and seems to shut itself down meaning I have to turn it on again ecery single time I need to use it.

I didnt a factory reset, Ive cleared the cache and checked for updates. Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas what I can do?

Does it happen if you try to unlock within a short time of locking it, or only after enough time had passed for it to go fully to sleep?

Check to see if one of the third party lock apps works normally. I'm guessing something is corrupted with the stock lock app.

How can I check the standard lock app if it's working or not?

Well, we know currently it's not working, or else you would be able to wake up from a lock. I'm hoping that testing using a different lock method will work, pinning the problem down to the stock app. At that point it's best to do a reset, and if that doesn't work a reload of the OS. If third party locks are giving the same symptom then we'll look at sleep mode itself...

I've tried a couple of 3rd party apps and done a factory reset all with no results.

OK, so if the problem is there no matter how you lock it, it's likely related to sleep rather than locking. Try letting it go to sleep through a timeout instead of through the lock process to see if it then acts the same for wakeup.

Ive left in sleep for a number of times ranging from minutes to hours and also overnight. Nothing works. This isnt a problem thats built, it just suddenyl happened.

When you have left the tablet alone, without locking it, until sleep kicks in, does it have problems waking up, or only when locked?

OK, so it's a sleep issue, not a lock issue. I know people have reported similar problems with the A1-850 when the default anti-virus (MacAfee) is enabled, and it seems to clear up if they disable MacAfee. You might try that to see if it makes a difference. If it does then some contact with MacAfee to see if there's a setting change would be in order.

McAfee is currently disabled, its worked before with it enabled aswell. Ive let the bettery run out, plugged it in and tried again, the screen sort of flickers when the power button is pressed

Then I'm pretty much out of ideas. Smiley Sad Probably time to get Acer involved, contact their support and see if they have a solution.

Thanks for yor help and suggestions anyway. I did as they suggested sending it for repairs. TBH I bought it used, may sell it as spares or faulty and get a new one at the end of the month.

Let us know what they find... I'd like to be less stumped next time. Smiley Happy
