I am having trouble connecting to wifi on my Acer Tablet. I have been advised to reset my table to manufacturer's specifications, but I don't want to lose all my pictres, apps, etc.

You should back it up before a reset. You can do that directly to Google if you want and they will restore the data after the reset and keep the app list for you to choose.

Do you see the WiFi network when you are trying to connect? Will it connect when you are very close (say, a couple of feet) from the router? I'm trying to discover if the problem is a signal strength issue or a corrupted configuration. The first won't be helped by a reset, the second likely will.

Thank you for your early response. I was trying to avoid resetting the tablet unless it is absolutely necessary! To answer your question, I don't think it is a signal issue, as it is not showing ANY wifi networks available, even when I am in a wifi zone.

I am trying not to have to restart my games especially (like Candy Crush, and others) that I have attained a high level Smiley Very Happy

If there is no other way, I will try the reset. Someone mentioned to me that sometimes the wifi cable gets loose from the Motherboard, causing the wifi connectivity to be lost. Do you know anything about that? If that is the case, then I don't think a reset would help. Let me know your thoughts. Many thanks!

That's why I was asking about connecting when very close to the router. When the antenna cable is loose you can still see the network if you are close enough to the source, say a couple of feet, since the antenna isn't needed at that distance. If you can't see your network even when that close to the router the probloem is more likely a failed WiFi board. Typically the reset helps when you can see networks, but can't connect. In that case the problem is more likely to be something corrupted in the WiFi drivers or network configuration and a reset can clear that up.

So......I backed up and reset my tablet; however, the problem now is that, while it recognizes my home network, I MUST be close to the modem/router in order to access the wifi connection. I am at a loss now as to what to do. Anothere question, where do I find my 'backed-up' information in google?

So that means you likely do have the issue with a loose antenna cable, or less likely a glitchy WiFi board. If you are in warranty contact Acer and they'll fix it for you.

Do you know any place that can repair/replace my wi-fi antenna?

If you are out of warranty, and so have to pay for the repair yourself, you can take it to any competent tech. It's not a technically difficult fix so should not be too expensive.

I'm not using a acer tablet but a Acer all-in one desktop computer and I have been having the problem it says I have a secure connection but I loose it after a few mins. my router is less then 15 feet away. I have to shut down the connection then restart again! then it happens again right when I'm in the middle of doing something! I have contacted the provider and they say it's fine.

This is likely a completely different problem that the one addressed in this thread. Open a new thread and ask your question, and provide the model number and OS version you're running.

Sometimes I sound like a broken record... :) This thread is several years old and you will get much better visibility to the other users if you start a new thread. With the Switch 5 you should put it in the Switch section instead of in Tablets (Switches are in Laptops). Include your model number, since there have been many different versions of the Switch 5, what your problem is and what you have tried so far.
