Can't reinstall Windows 8?

My laptop won't boot up fully. I got a "0xc000000d" error code telling me that I need to repair my laptop. I created an installation media on a flash drive. I managed to get it working when I put in some fixes on the command prompt, but stopped again when I tried reverting it to the factory settings. No other troubleshooting method works. I tried doing a clean install. I cleaned out all the partitions with the command prompt and tried installing, but it stops working. I don't know what to do. Any ideas? I have an Acer V5 with Windows 8.

The Microsoft link I posted to has powerful tools to automatically fix EFI partition.  It will set it as GPT automatically.  Changing your BIOS settings to legacy mode could complicate things.

I would recommend not changing the BIOS settings.  They should be left in UEFI mode.

If you don't have success with Microsoft media installation fixing the problem the first time, then you can do diskpart clean.  But don't format the disk or set as active.  Just do a diskpart clean then exit. The installation media USB that I linked to should do everything else automatically.

I would try Ironfly's suggestion as a last resort.

If you ran diskpart clean, then your recovery partition is gone. If you didn't make a factory default USB backup with Acer recovery management prior to your problems, then the only way to get your computer back to factory condition is to buy your recovery media from Acer.

If you just want to do a clean install of windows 8, then you can follow the link below. I'm pretty sure the installation media below runs diskpart clean, and puts down a fresh EFI partition, and sets your drive as active system disk automatically. So you shouldn't need to access a command prompt and do any of that. Obviously, you'll need to create the USB media on a different computer if yours won't boot.

Have you tried to boot pressing ALT+F10?

that error is about BCD missing.

i would suggest you to give the HDD a check, maybe has some sectors errors.

i suggest you to create a bootable USB or CD media from Hiren's boot cd .iso
    http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/
unzip the zip file, burn the .iso file to CD or USB pen/external HDD
then use a software to burn CD/DVD or USB flash drive and burn the .iso file
once done, put the CD/DVD/USB on your PC, boot from CD/USB (maybe you need to boot under Legacy if you have UEFI BIOS)
press F12 at boot and choose CD or USB, then select one of the various HDD test tool.

I ready tried that. I put it on a flash drive. I also tried the diskpart clean using the command prompt.

I had an issue recently as well.  My USB recovery drive was corrupted.  I tried re-installing windows 8.1 off the USB and it would fail the installation near 80%.  I think I saved or added another file to the USB drive for storage and that's what corrupted the drive.  I wasn't aware you couldn't save more files on the flash drive in addition to the boot recovery files.

What you should try to find out is the Windows 8.1 License Key (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx) on your laptop.  Then you can go over to microsoft and create another USB Flash recovery with windows 8.1 on it.  You'll install with that method and then enter whatever your license key is to activate the copy.  You'll most likely need to download all the drivers again from the acer website for your laptop model.

Microsoft will not let you create or download a recovery or installation media with an OEM key.

I believe they'll allow you to download a windows 8.1 recovery on your USB.  It just won't be activated.  You should be able to use the Windows License Key that's built into the laptop to activate that Microsoft copy.  I believe that the following link would work and do just that.

The OEM key won't work for Windows 7 using that microsoft media USB installer, but will work for Windows 8. The OEM key gets retrieved automatically from the motherboard. I know it works for windows 8, because I did it. Smiley Wink So he can make that Microsoft USB media installation drive as per link since he has windows 8.1.

What BIOS do you have? Make sure you load the defaults in your BIOS. The only change you need to make in your BIOS is to enable the boot menu.

    1. Load defaults in BIOS
    2. Save and exit
    3. Reboot
    4. Enable boot menu
    5. Save and exit
    6. Click F-12
    7. Select your USB
    8. Open command prompt
    9. Use diskpart clean on your MAIN drive
    10. Type "exit" to get out of command prompt
    11. install windows 8.1 from that USB drive.

I'm not sure Windows activates automatically like the Acer Recovery does.  Someone mentioned that you need to find the Microsoft License Key that's built into the laptop.  I'm not sure how you find it, possibly a program can tell you or it's in the bios?  The new windows installation from Microsoft may need the license key entered.  It may not pick it up automatically?

But I'm telling you that it does activate properly because I did it. I verified it by going to control panel "system" to see my Acer America OEM windows key. I also verified by installing Cyber Link PowerDVD from my backed up Acer Apps. Power DVD recognized my Windows as genuine OEM Acer and allowed free update.

Tried that already. I cleaned disk 0, which was the bigger disk, then I tried installing it, but like tytlyf said, it only gets to around 80%, then stops.

I think the choices were Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 single language, windows 8.1 pro.

Your USB recovery media is corrupt like mine was.  Did you put other files on that USB drive after you created the recovery part of it?

You should go to that link I posted and create a new USB recovery drive at the microsoft site.

I would guess that is the problem also. You can also retry with a different USB drive.

    Windows 8.1?
    Windows 8.1 single language?
    Windows 8.1 pro?

If the installation is failing, then it's most likely a corrupt USB drive.  You also said you were getting a blue screen with an error code telling you to repair your system.  I had the same thing.  Don't do what I did and send your laptop in for warranty support.  I would use the USB drive and go make a new recovery on the microsoft site.  That way it's free.  Other than that, you can always buy a USB ISO Recovery directly from the Acer Store, it's around $45.  I'd try the free route first.  Also, if you have more than 1 drive in your system, unplug the one you don't want the OS installed on.

My laptop came with Windows 8. Basic, I'm pretty sure. I downloaded 8.1 later on. Should I maybe install 8? Also, I put Windows 8.1 basic on it. Not pro or single lang.
