Acer aspire v5 431, need to disable touch screen. screen cracked & generating constant taps
Hi
I have an acer aspire v5 431 windows 8 laptop with a touch screen. I just returned from a few days away to find the screen has cracks in it. I can only assume someone got into my home while I was away and for some reason did this.
I need to disable the touch screen, as while the screen display is still fine, the cracks in the screen are ghosting constant fast "screen taps" which are making it impossible to use the mouse or keyboard.
I have been able to log in with great effort, and then via vnc remote (which was already set up to run as a service thank god) i can left click on most things. Right click is impossible, as the ghosting simply closes right click menus the moment they are displayed
However i CANNOT do any touch screen actions /gestures, so I cannot swipe, to access any of the restart / shut down options.
I CANNOT use the keyboard to search for anything, or use keyboard shortcuts, as the ghosting of a screen tap is so rapid its impossible to get it to react to any key presses.
I have tried to boot into safe mode in the hope that the touch screen drivers arent running in safe mode, however I cant figure out how to boot into safe mode givin the above limitations. I have tried restarting (the only way I can restart is to hold down the power button on keyboard, as I cannot swipe to access the on screen power button, and have been unable to tap on it with a mouse.
So i tried restarting via hardware button, and hitting shift plus f8 however it just boots into windows 8.
I have tried to find the driver in device manager, however the two categories i have looked in (after googling where it might be ) are human interface and audio sound, etc.
the human interface category has a huge pile of sub items, all with meaningless generic names such as HID compliant device. Looking at details, etc in properties gives me no clue as to what device each of the countless ''Hid compliant device"s listed might refer to, so not keen to disable any in case i disable something that f--ks things up even further.
The only ways I can think of to be able to disable the touch screen driver are either by getting it to boot in safe mode WITHOUT using the software reset menu, and then hopefully if the touch screen drivers dont run at startup I can do some searching to try and find the file locations, then use msconfig etc to disable it
The other option if i could find the file name and location might be to write a windows batch file via notepad on my older laptop, that kills the touchscreen driver process, and then use a linux live cd to boot my acer, and copy the batch file into the startup folder so that hopefully the touch screen driver process is killed when windows boots and executes startup items...
Can anyone suggest a way to boot into safe mode that ideally does NOT require me to log into windows first, ie a way to boot into safe mode directly after using the hardware reset button.
Or does anyone know for sure, the name and location of the touch screen driver file so I can try renaming it, or kill it via a batch file.
I dont have the money to replace the screen and wont have for some time, and i rely on that laptop for my internet as its the only device I own with a wifi card which is able to pick up the long distance wifi signal (which is my only option where I live) so it runs virtual router to connect all my other devices.
I hardly ever used the touch screen as it was, so im happy enough to use it with no touch screen features, i just need to disable the dam touch screen so I can use the mouse and keyboard.
Can anyone suggest anything?
