I wonder if the charger is getty flakey... Is it the original charger?

You can force a power down by holding the power button down for a long time. Once it's fully down you should be able to power it back on normally.

it's the original charger, but i also tried from my laptop and it didn't help. is it a big deal, or possible, to replace the battery? and is it expensive to do so, ie; get a new tablet instead?

How old is it? They have a one year warranty IIRC. Looks like a new replacement battery runs $40-70, depending on who's offering. At $40 it's probably worth doing, at $70 I'd be looking at the cost of a new model.

i've had it for a couple years. i can't stand that it might be something fixble that i am just not aware of and i throw away a perfectly useable tablet. but right now it is a paperweight. i need to make a decision soon and get another if i can't figure out what's wrong with this one. if it won't even make a sound, is it possible the battery is flat out dead and buying a new charger might work? the last thing it did was vibrate in the middle of the night. i'm not sure if it was powered off or asleep, but it was hooked up to the charger.

It's possible the battery has failed, that type of battery just stops charging if it gets too low. It's also possible the charger is defective, they would both give you pretty much the same symptoms. Do you know anyone else with the same model to test? Failing that the charger is a 2.1A 5.35V, but any of the microUSB chargers at 2A or so will work. What won't work is the 500mA charge a standard USB port provides... Perhaps you have a phone charger with enough oomph?

couldn't find a charger to try so ordered a new one. figured i'd spend $12 and see if it works before tossing a 2 yr. old tablet! we'll see.

Its definitely the charger block if its taking forever to charge I have at least 3 different charging blocks for my iconia tab and only 1 out of the three seems to take longer than the other 2 to charge my tablet fully or at least to a certain percentage anyway!

Thanks, it's a big help when members let us know how it worked out. A standard USB charger is specced for 500mA, as is a USB port on a computer. Either can keep the tablet at a constant charge but neither will actually raise the charge level. For that you need the 2A charger with it's special magic (actually a resistor between two of the pins) for telling the tablet it's OK to fill the battery up.
