Hi

Added two monitors to my yoga 11s via a thinkpad usb 3.0 dock. the Acer S27HL installed fine. but the acer s200hql was recognized it as a generic PnP monitor and the driver is monitor.sys instaed of the acer S200HQL.icm. Does anyone know how I can fix this.

Thanks

Thomas

    blessing,

Did Windows 8 pick the Acer drivers up as an optional update possibly? We do have drivers on our us.acer.com website, if you haven't downloaded them and tried to update your monitor driver with the files in that folder.

    Justin,

First thanks for replying. One of your colleagues sent me a link to a driver manager software.

thanks but that soft ware didnt even recognize the moniotrs. and i had already tried2 other driver managers, but they all want a service contract, and I should need to pay for that just to get a moniotr to work.

I did down load the drivers, and dbl checked them a few times.

I used the grpahics display advanced settings to update the driver manually by pointing to it, i even copied it into the same place as the generic driver. it just wouldnt stick.

I had to return the monitors beacuse the 15 day return policy at bestbuy was up. during that time, I spent about 30 hours, seriously, trying to solve the problem, I just didnt want to give up, and I was learning alot

I read a lot of posts on many difffernt websites by people who had the same problem, and the popular reasons why windows couldnt find the driver were, windows 8 controller would not redirect to the Acer driver location, and that the DDC acer controller didnt help, it was also blamed for makinhg the screen to bright. then there were a lot of posts aimed at the driver manufacturer for not updating their drivers.

I got the impression that the S200HQL monitor was being discontinued by acer.

I had concluded that I need to go with company that didnt have 100 postings by people who were having compatibilty issues. but I am now looking at the Acer 21.5 touch screen, its one of tghe best deals out there for touch screens.

So i need to have confidence that its going to load up.

I know these posts are two years old, but it doesnt sound good.

TigerDirect has the best price, and 1 good review, and the bad review might be the owners fualt but their description of the Acer support experience is not uncommon.

there are sites out there with very good reviews, but I didnt see any mentinos of installing it with windows 8.1?

    Suggestions?

my fist laptop was an acer, that was 15 years ago,it was awesome, and it still works except the power cablejack became loose and its only powers up about 10% of the time. computer repair shops saiud it would cost more to fix it then it would to buy a new laptop of comparable speed.

    blessing,

The FT220HQL (2014) monitor you linked from TigerDirect shouldn't have any problems being recognized in Windows 8.x, it's a moderately newer monitor whereas the S200HQL (2010) was a bit older. That's really the only reason why I could think it wouldn't work right honestly.

As far as bad reviews about support, we're here to help. The unfortunate problem is that is something that happens with every business and company, it's not an excuse on our part to do it though. There are times when things slip through the cracks and customers don't get the help they deserve, we try and deal with that when it happens, reporting stuff like that is the correct course of action so we can address it.
