Acer Aspire Switch 12: Hinges have a weird angle an make a gap

Hi everyone,

even though english is not my native language, I hope to make my problem clear (its actually not a problem, I'm just wondering a little bit).

I just bought my new Aspire Switch 12 a Week ago and so far I'm very happy. What worries me is the unregular gap between stand and display in the "stand-mode". The hinges are not 100% horizontally and so the gap shows a curve.

here's a picture of what i mean:

When i googled Pictures i could not see that phenomenon on these.

Are there other users who have an Aspire Switch 12 and can report whether its the same with their device?

Or maybe there's an technician who knows if this is constructively intended?

Thanks in advance
Jonas

Mine is similar to yours in your picture, though I never noticed it before.

I'm no engineer but the screen/case seems to have more structural strength at the top near the webcam than at the bottom near the Acer logo and this may be causing the curve.

By the way, if you or anyone else has successfully opened the case (eg to change the ssd), kindly post instructions. I've heard some people have done it.

As there are no screws, it's probably a simple a snap open and shut process.

I would feel more comfortable trying after seeing it can be done.

Anyone else who can share that experience?

Mine is the same but I have an original Switch 12 with the exposed display that cannot charge the keyboard while in use and not the more conventional "secret" Switch 12 demoed at the NYC show.

I've seen that it's apparently very easy to open the cae and upgrade the ssd for example.

No screws, just insert a fingernail in the seam and gently pry open.

The case snaps open and will click closed too.

Need to ensure no microsd card and also two cables running from the display to the base near the hinges.

Very easy, not like the nightmares you hear from people trying to open Apple and Microsoft devices.
