How do I boot from external DVD using Iconia W700P?

I'm tired of having to restore my entire system (and lose all my files, programs, apps, etc.) every time something hangs the Iconia W700P (and it happens fairly often). I have an external DVD, entire system backups using Acronis True Image 2015, an Acronis boot disk (made on a Win 7 machine), but cannot get the system to boot to the DVD device. I tried resetting the boot order, but it keeps booting into my original Windows 8 system (I had to restore everything yet again). I even tried changing to a legacy boot, but the system could not find a bootable device.

Without a way to restore my system, this fairly expensive machine is entirely worthless!!!!

Please help!!

Turning off secure boot seems to have done the trick. The DVD loads now.

    Thanks!

Any chance the external DVD isn't getting enough power? I use an external power pack for the DVD on mine.

Nope, I bought a DVD with an external power supply. Thanks for the suggestion!
