Hello, last week i tried to reset my pc to factory default. As it was attempting something failed and everytime it would get to diagnosing pc it would keep resetting. So i called and they said to get recovery disks. They came and as i go to do the recovery i get a 0x17 cyclic redundancy error everytime i get to the part where i insert disc 2. I ran quick and extended tests on the hard drive. Both completed with no errors. I every zerod the hard drive. But still same error as i use recovery disks i just recieved Smiley Sad i hope someone can help me i am very stuck

Since this happened restoring from HDD recovery, i have 2 main suspects:

    1) HDD going bad

    2) a ram stick that's failing

if you are out of warranty, you can try to run the PC with just one ram stick and see if it will end the recovery process without errors.

if you are still under warranty, you can do some test on both using Hiren's boot cd

    http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/
unzip the zip file, burn the .iso file to CD or USB pen/external HDD

to create an USB bootable media from Hiren's, you can use Rufus:

    http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US

    once ready:

    1) enter BIOS pressing DEL key, enable LaunchCSM and disable Secure boot, press F10 save & exit

    2) connect your USB flash drive or insert CD/DVD, press F12 at boot and choose USB or CD/DVD

    3) once in the main Hiren's screen, choose Memtest to test ram, select one of the various HDD test from the list

I would start with a chkdsk first.  See if that fixes your drive.
