Tinkerer

i am running windows 8.1 can i connect to my laptop which has windows 7 ?  I want to move files from laptop to tablet.  Connected with USB cable.

    usb cable will not do, you will need a router or ide/sata to usb kit (whaterver hd you have) or just use a usb stick of a good size if not too much to copy.

    USB isn't really designed for networking. The easiest way is to just have each system join the same homegroup and you can just copy files between them over the network. If for some reason they can't both be on the network you can use a USB thumbdrive and transfer files using it and 'sneaker net'.

    I have heard that an OTG cable might work but Windows wants to be a Master and not a USB slave.

     

    If no router you canset up an ad-hoc network with static addresses.
