No Turbo-Boost on AC power (only while gaming)

    I've looked over the reports and see several dozen times in each where the CPU turboed up to 2.70 GHz. From what I can see you're getting the performance we expect for this feature, short bursts of speed boosts as needed.

    I agree. The processor seems to be turbo boosting to the correct clock, however, take note of the CPU power. Look how much it fluctuates from battery to AC power. Game frame rates follow these increase or decrease in power levels.

     

    I also want to add that the times you saw the CPU increase to 2.7 running on batter. It never boosted to 2.7 while on AC. Also, the clock speed will drop frequently to 800 mhz while on AC. How does that make sense?

    I see it boost to 2.70 while on AC power according to your list of AC versus battery. Let me know if I'm reading it wrong.

     

    First report (AC power times)

    Start time: 12:10:05:136

    First boost: 12:10:20:009

    Second boost: 12:10:23:627

    Third boost: 12:10:43:855

    Fourth boost: 12:10:47:684

     

    Second report (AC power times)

    Start time: 12:15:01:000

    First boost: 12:15:11:495

     

    I'll enter in what Intel puts as a description of how this technology works (see below).

     

    • Type of workload
    • Number of active cores
    • Estimated current consumption
    • Estimated power consumption
    • Processor temperature

    When the processor is operating below these limits and the user's workload demands additional performance, the processor frequency will dynamically increase until the upper limit of frequency is reached. Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 has multiple algorithms operating in parallel to manage current, power, and temperature to maximize frequency and energy efficiency.

    No your correct. I missed those.

     

    I am curious though why it dips to 800 mhz during these periods? Also, I still don't understand why the processor power acts the way it does, and why game frame rates line up with these issues? I could care less what the reporting states, all I care about is performance, and there is a drastic difference in performance when moving from AC power to battery power. Whether this has anything to do with clock speed, processor power, etc, doesnt matter to me. I just want consistent performance, and the ability to run a game for longer than an hour without having to reduce the quality settings to the lowest possible.

     

    It's rather perplexing...
