Faulty w510 charger?

The power light on my W510 cycles on/off during charge, power icon cycles battery/charging. Screen dims and brightens. Problem was intermittent but is becoming more persistent. Charger has not been exposed to abuse!

What is the battery icon in the tray indication ? Is it switching  ? Basically bright/dim sounds like the display thinks you are switching from mains to battery power. Is the power plug all the way in and the prong end twisted to the stop ?

    Hi Padgett

Thanks for responding. Yes, the icon is switching. I've checked the connections many times, so they're ok. Power cycles on and off in a regular rhythm every second or so, so it doesn't seem like a loose connection. Switching on and off sometimes clears the problem for a time, but not always.

    Thanks

    Grant

Yes, the icon on the statusbar should be switching from battery to battery with power plug if the charging state is cycling.

For some reason the problem is cropping up less often today. Tray icon cycles battery/charging, percentage charge stays constant. Thanks for your help.

Getting this too intermittently when charging from keyboard. Unplug tablet from keyboard dock and connect charger to tablet. Disconnect charger from tablet and connect it to keyboard. Finally plug the tablet on the keyboard again. Does the trick for me.

I've found that othen there is a lag bectween the icon changing states and sometimes it doesn't change atol. I use BatteryInfoView to display what is really happening.

Scratch my previous reply I am still getting issues and the previous trick I mentionned no longer works.

I started having this issue months ago but acer support was horrible. They basically wanted me to send both keyboard and tablet, charge me for diagnostic and charge me again for repair.
Considering the fair amount of people complaining on the web this is a global issue on the product, apparently not hardware related as without changing/moving the tablet it suddently can start charging again.

This was my last acer purchase, the poor support I received and the bugs I went through with this 600€ product (+ accessories) are enough.

If I manage to find a fix I will just sell the tablet, meanwhile I am still looking for a solution.

    Few more  details:

    - at times charging from docking keyboard does not work but charging directly from the tablet does

    - at times charging from both tablet or keyboard does NOT work

Random operations can temp fix or intermittently fix the issue such as rebooting but not always. Leaving the tablet plugged did the trick last night but few hours later and few reboots later it does not charge anymore.
