When my Acer iconia a3-a20 will get android lollipop??? Is there a way i can update it directly or do we have to wait for Acer to roll it out. Is there a scheduled date/month? Just bought the tablet and want to determine if i need to return it before the return period runs out.

It's liable to be months. Acer has not yet announced any 5.0 models yet, and they are unlikely to do the ports for older models until they have the new ones out. As with most of the tablet/phone manufacturers they put the resources into debugging new models before porting to old models, and typically only port to older mmodels for 1-2 years. Android is not like Windows where the OS is mostly generic, it has to be rewritten for each hardware platform each time there is a new version.

Sort of defeats having an Android device doesn't it.

Hate to say MS/Apple seem to at least provide upgrades [patches]  for a few years until they want more £££ for their latest OS investement.

Yet Google were supposed to be offering Android to allow Developers and Customers to escape from MS/Apple stranglehold.

Guess I should look into Linux version for my Samsung Mega 6.3 and Iconia tab 10 A3-A20 as neither of these companies are providing ongoing support for their expensive devices! Smiley Sad

It's not as if "this years models" are drastically different inside: CPU/Memory etc.

One of the big differences between the Google OS model and MS/Apple is the hardware flexibility. With Android the hardware is pretty fixed, no one is swapping out graphics cards in a phone. This makes it somewhat more difficult to do OS releases since each hardware platform needs to get a port specific to itself. With Windows or Linux the OS has to be designed to recognize and react to a large selection of hardware options. This is why a Windows version upgrade is handled by Microsoft and an Android upgrade is handled by the hardware vendor. The disadvantage is slow upgrades and upgrades only to newer hardware, the advantage is much lowwer costs to the end user.

This tablet is great!  I would love to know when the latest android update will come to it.  The hardware seems capable to take on lollipop.  Can someone confirm whether or not we will be seeing it soon or give some time frame on its release?
