so I only get audio, no video. looked up the answer elsewhere on the community and apparently the answer is to download and install up-to -date drivers. 2 questions:

1. should I haveto do this when my tab is less than 2 weeks old?

2. I can only download not intall, the only options I get following download is to open or save the downloaded files.

Feeling frustrated as the only reason I purchased this tab was to be able to use widi to project to my tv feeling let down by this product now. Any help gratefully received.

Hi Billsey, just thought I'd let you know that I managed to move things along - the problem wasn't the difference in screen resolution between the tab and the TV as I've finally got extended screen working and the picture is fine - not top quality but perfectly watchable for tv catch-up/movies etc.  Just thought I'd come back to you as you were kind enough to help me and in case it's of use to anyone else with the problem.  The display settings were set so that the second screen was the primary screen so as soon as I launched widi my tablet screen went black - still responsive to touch but black so in trying to alter the settings I was shooting blind - I could only see the TV screen and was trying to control it through a black tab screen.  In the end I disconnected from projection so that my tab screen became visible, optimised my touch settings to make my touching the screen more visible on a projected monitor, re-connected the second screen and this time, although my tab screen was black, I was able (after a long while of fiddling about with it) to reset the settings to make the tab the primary screen.  Unfortunately each solution brings its own set of problems but as it's essentially a different problem (can only extend to TV screen not duplicate and as TV is not touch screen and mouse pointer isn't visible on extended TV screen I'm back to shooting blind again) I've started a new discussion.  Thanks again for your help. If you 'open' it will install directly. If you 'save' you will have a file in your downloads that you double click to install. I typically save then install because I've had too many experiences where an install gave errors and I don't want to have to download again for a second try. Smiley Happy

Thanks, when I select open I get a compressed folder and the option to extract, which I do, I then get a list of other folders which I open into another list and so on. Do I have to open all of them or just some of them, this isn't straight forward and definitely notiser friendly.

OK, I downloaded the 1.16 package so I could talk apples to apples. Smiley Happy When you extract the zip file it creates a folder. In that folder is a file called 'Setup.exe', or just plain 'Setup' if you don't have 'view file extensions' turned on. Run the Setup application and it should do the rest for you.

In regards to your first question in the thread, "should I haveto do this when my tab is less than 2 weeks old?", your tablet was built quite some time before you purchased it. It's not unusual for the product to take weeks or months to get from where it was assembled to your store. During that time there is often updates to fix problems that only reared their heads after release. So, yes, you should almost expect that there will be updates to install as soon as you fire up a new tablet, phone or computer. They're often less noticable with phones since they are updated for you in the background.

Thanks for your help Billsey, it makes perfect sense when you explained it as to why updates should be needed on a new tablet.  Also thanks for taking the trouble to investigate.  However having followed your guidance and the guidance of Cyberpunk on a different but related discussion I've now managed to get the HD graphics control panel but am now encountering the problem that as soon as I launch widi my tablet screen goes black and I can only get the display on my TV - I then can't navigate because my tablet screen is black and I can't fiddle with settings to try and get both screens working because I can't navigate, because my tablet screen is black - catch 22.  I've been fiddling about with the acer for days now, don't know whether it's an acer issue, a windows 8.1 issue or a miracast issue but unless there's a solution within the next 24 hours I'm going to have to send the acer back as I'm only just within my 14 day return limit.  I'll still keep trying with wireless projection but will go for an android non acer tab (not Dell venue 8 as I'm hearing similar problems there) and at least that should reduce the risk of it not working - at least if I do that I'll have eliminated 2 elements of a potential triangular problem.  Thanks again for your help, it's taken me further than I'd got previously - unfortunately I've just encountered a fresh problem to which there doesn't seem to be a solution.

I can see your frustration. What software/hardware are you using for the Widi? If I were to guess I'd look at the difference in resolutions between your W4 and the TV. The W4 display is (IIRC) 1280x800, I'm guessing your TV is 1920x1080. If the software doesn't scale it's liable to try to show 1920x1080 on both. The W4 would go to a blank screen at that point. If the software does scale it should be able to be configured to show differing resolutions on different screens. If you were to connect a mouse to the W4 you should be able to use the TV as an active display though, so that might be an intermittent solution until the software is updated to support scaling.

Thanks I didn't want to use HDMI, bought the tab specifically because I wanted wireless screen mirroring.  In the end I sent it back and bought a toshiba 8" tab which does wirelessly screen mirror.  Pity though, I actually preferred the design of the acer but it didn't do what I wanted it to do which was to wirelessly screen mirror.  I have to say though that although I like acer products I'll never buy another one on the basis of the appallingly low knowledge base within their customer support team.  They actually told me they didn't know whether the model I had was faulty or just not configured to wirelessly screen mirror and suggested that I go and ask in stores i.e. they expect third party sales people to have more product knowledge that acer's own customer support teams.  Very disappointing.

Yes i truely agree with you they just knew of resetting. Device and filing complain number.
I will also never prefer acer as my tab also screen mirroring not work but biggest of all touch screen even stopped working. I am thinking why dammmmm i wasted huge ammount on acer i would have gone for dell or toshiba which has better after sales service too.
