Hello,

So my Acer Aspire e5 571 which ive been using for about 3 days just had a windows update. Now it starts up fine but I get a black screen once I log in. However some programs are still able to see and popup randomly. I also tried going into my bIOS but it asks for a password which I do not know.

if you press CTRL+ALT+DEL are you able to open the task manager?

    or try this:

    1) Once you are on the password login screen , Press and hold Shift key and click on the power icon (bottom right corner of the screen) and restart your computer.. ( Remember do not type in password)
    2) You will get advance options . Click on troubleshoot ------> Advanced options----> Start up settings-------> Restart------> and select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

    3) once in the desktop in safe mode, open the device manager, click on the video adapter, right click on it and choose unisntall

    4) reboot and check if it works

Hi, my first time on here so please excuse me if I'm asking a daft question! Where can I download either Acer Recovery Manager or restore software for my laptop? I've had it for just over a year, the DVD drive has never worked!

It's obviously just out of warranty but PC World, who supplied it, have diagnosed a faulty drive. I proved this by swapping with the one from my old lappy, but I would like to restore factory settings and clear it our properly. I tried this previously but error messages came up and when I try the windows restore, it asks for recovery media which I do not have! Please help!!

    Thnaks Chris

Hi and thanks for the swift reply. No, I'm in the UK and cannot find any support at all! I downloaded a fresh copy of 8.1 enterprise to see if that solved the DVD issues, which it didn't as that was faulty! Nw I can't restore to factory settings! I just have a worthless laptop unless I can get the correct software downloaded! Can't be rocket science surely? I have had the faulty DVD drive diagnosed by both Acer online and PC world, but can't find any kind of reset software! Frustrating to say the least!Smiley Frustrated

ok, you must contact acer UK:

    http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/service-contact

and ask for a recovery media (DVD or USB)
