Do Acer Wipe Laptops Returned under Warranty

Hi,

I recently returned an Aspire 5750G under warranty because it had developed an overheating problem.  The machine was less than a month old so I returned it to the retailer, Sainsburys.

My question is, assuming Sainsbury's return the laptop to Acer under warranty, what will Acer do with it?  In hindsight I should have secure erased my personal data off.

Do Acer do this before re-deploying the machine?

    Good day

Software is not covered under warranty and Acer doesnt do backups. You must do the backups before sending the machine in for repairs.

Hi Freeza - thanks for the reply.

I dont think I worded the question very well sorry, so I will try again!

I have returned my laptop to Sainsburys who have refunded me.  I will not see the laptop again.

Before I returned it, I backed up my own data, moved to another device and restored the computer to factory settings using the eRecovery tools.

My concern is that whilst I restored the computer, on the assumption that Acer will fix the hardware issue and re-sell as a refurb OR recycle any remaining working components, I didnt ERASE the data from the disk so my personal data is still on the  hard disk.  Any subsequent owner could in theory, recover that data with a bit of know how with associated ID theft issues etc.

My question is, before putting the laptop or hard disk to a new use (if that is appropriate) would Acer securely wipe the hard drive?

    Thanks
