Why has the screen of my A3-A10 lost its touchscreen capability and how can I get it back?

The central horizontal band of my tablet will not recognise any attempt to activate commands. It is affecting the top lines of keyboard and the Shut down button, as well as all other programmes opened.

Any ideas what the source of the problem might be?

If it's only in a band and the rest of the screen works normally it is likely a hardware failure, either in the digitizer
(most likely) or motherboard (less likely). If you are still in warranty contact Acer support and they'll get it fixed for you. If you are out of warranty then you have a choice of having a service technician replace the digitizer, hoping that's the cure (probably be $100-$120 I'd guess) or sending it to Acer and having them fix it (they'll have to give you a price, I'd be guessing).

Of course you should verify my logic by doing a backup of your data followed by a system reset, just to make sure it's not software, before taking hardware steps... Smiley Happy

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply.

I have activated a reset but problem remains. The unit is under warranty still and I have contacted Acer UK to arrange a service return.

This does not appear to be a common fault but I will post an update when repair details are available.

    Cheers

Good, let us know how it works out... Though that symptom is pretty rare, we'll eventually get someone else looking for the same thing. Smiley Happy

Sorry Billsey (and all others interested in A3 problems), but I did not send the tablet for repair. The unit was less than 6 months old and my supplier (Asda in UK, Walmart to US friends) offered me an exchange or full refund. There were no A3s (or other 10.1" tablets I fancied) available so I took the refund.

After looking at various alternatives, I have now purchased a replacement - another A3 from different supplier. Until the recent problem, it had performed well and I am prepared to give this model another go.

    All the best.
