Installing OS to an N2120G PC

Although my new PC came with an Acer DVD for the drivers, it did NOT have an optical drive. Acer do not have an accessory for this model and it was just supplied with FreeDOS installed so cannot recognise any PnP external drives.

So, how can I install an OS from the Windows CD/DVD I have?

Ask some friend to burn the DVD iso to an USB pen and boot your PC from the USB pen (press F12 at boot and choose the USB pen as boot device).

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Thanks for trying - been away from my emails for a few days as home is very busy over Christmas.

Your suggestion won't work as an iso file is in effect a "zipped" copy of a CD/DVD. When software converted to "unzip" it it is only compatible with the optical drive codec and specific software. Thus simply presenting the file on a USB memstick will be meaningless to a PC wthout an OS and all the optical drive software. (Basic info at http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/I/ISO_image.html )

There is also the problem that a bootable CD/DVD is not configured in the same way that a bootable memstick has to be.

I do know of one solution that involves a lot of work using programmes such as BartPE. I was just hoping that Acer or a user might already have developed a method specifically for the N series without optical drive that I could use simply!

PS   I find it very surprising that Acer supply a PC without an optical drive and in the same box provide all the drivers on a DVD in the same box!
