Acer Iconia One 7 confusing info

The box and the website say that the Iconia One 7 is a quad core but when you open up the system device information it says it's a 2 core. Also the ROM size claims 8 gigs but after it's all said and you are missing space. I just wish companies were a little more upfront with people. 2 cores is not a quad core..... ad 8Gigs is not useable 8 Gigs of space since the OS takes 2 gigs that leaves 6 but I am showing only 4 gigs and 2 of that is taken by apps leaving me with 2 gigs of space left.... a lot of missing space here..... I got his is a Christmas gift and considering returning it because I don't like false advertising, besides that it's a great tablet though so far

OK I see what was done... it's a dual core with HTT so it can do 4 threads, hence calling it a 4 core. Not too happy about that but I can get over that in time. I just don't understand how 2gigs of (HDD we will call it that for simplicity) is just missing. If you look in storage it shows you what is being used and when I go under apps to see which ones are installed (which shows 2Gigs in Storage being used) it shows 2gigs used (ok makes sense) with 2.1gigs available ok so that is 4+ gigs and 2 gigs for OS (according to Storage), that leaves almost 2 gigs of space unaccounted for. I have seen the same thing on my old Toshiba Thrive and it's really horrible to say you have 8Gigs when you really don't. I got 3 tablets for Christmas so I am comparing them all before I send 2 back. The other is a 10" Visual Land with mostly the same stats but it has 16Gbs of space, and when I look I actually still have 14+Gigs available not to seem crazy but how much extra stuff does Acer put into this that it takes up so much more room. Honestly I wouldn't care if it was before 4.4 but Google screwed us when they took away the ability to move apps to the SD card. I kind of wish that the ability to get root access was built into these with the flip of a switch so we could remove any of the superfluous apps that we the user did not want to have. Oh well..... I guess it will be a harder decision that I thought. I REALLY like this tablet but the false advertising leaves me with a real bad taste in my mouth....

  • Hi,

I understand, but the fact is OS takes a part of the Memory, which is not listed under storage, the storage info under settings is user accessible & that does not count the OS, example, I have a Smart Phone with 8GB internal, having said that, the Starage spage will only show 5.5GB, the rest as understood goes for OS,. The Root option cannot be provided as we expect as that opens the door for unauthorised backdoor applications which could read & access personal info & more critical info like your Credit card info, & also some apps could also send messages on your behalf, which as a user anyone would not expect or accept,. Cheers,. Again getting Root is for advanced users who understand the exact risk & what they do. Cheers
