My experience -- I gave up on ACER tech support

Its been a while since i have used my Iconia W3, I bought it over a year ago, due to the touch screen consitantly not working properly. I sent it off to ACER support twice.

I had the tablet for less than a month and used it rarely when i noticed that the touch input would randomly just quit working, i would hard reset the device and then it would work again. I called acer support and they were extreamly helpful and sent me a box to send it off to the repair center.

When they sent me the tablet back i took it out of the box and imediatly i had the same exact issue as before along with when i would touch the screen a small part of the screen would blink, like something was dammaged in it. So i called them and they said to ship it back to them.

When i received it back the second time, I noticed that the tech had stated the screen was scratched and that he could not find any issues with the device but noted that now there was a scratch on the screen. Sure enough when i looked at the device there was a new scratch, when i turned it on and touched the screen a box about 1" sqare near the middle top of the screen would blink. The tech support for Acer is horrible. The company reps for Acer were wonderful.

I have since put the tablet in a drawer and havnt used it since. I want to thank ACER for this learning experience.  I will not be buying anymore expensive Acer products in the future.

Forgot to mention, I purchased two of these W3 Talbets, and gave one as a gift to my cousin. He said after a week of use the battery quit working and he can only use it while plugged in.

Like u, I have also decided not to buy any acer device in my future. I'm using acer w510 which i bought before one & half years ago. I bought it because i lost my laptop n i needed a windows device & i saw the ad n review for this device were cool. But couple of months later i noticed that the top right corner of the screen got burned out, also the tablet case started giving some click noise on holding firmly & few more issues. I dont have time to send it to the customer care to fix it as im busy always. We are buying these devices with great expectation n they are disapointing us.

But lemme say that this discussion forum is live n tht feels good.

To some extent, Acer feels more like a parts assembler than a manufacturer, some of the components (SOC/Intel, GNSS/Broadcom) are received along with their drivers and not a whole lot of documentation. There is more information in forums etc than the support lines

There does seem to be some variation in the BIOS and Power Handling but there they do not follow even the few standards I have found (is supposed to be some indication that a charge is going on (Acer is pretty good about this but others aren't). None really follow the MS spec on USB charging (why every different device handles it differently (some require the USB data lines to be shorted to charge, others do not. All require at least a 10W supply to charge).

Where I am really confused is the trend toward dumb, low powered, sub-U$100 Windows tabs. Android/iOS is dominant in this market and smart phone are taking over everything. I was expecting that by now we would have a 7" (DIN and coat pocket form factor) Windows tab with 2.4GHz Z3770, 4GB dual channel Ram and a 64 bit OS.

Plus the majors would get well on accessorization (Docks, both home and auto. All the stuff that lines the walls in the edible fruit store) instead of leaving it to Amazon. It works for auto dealers.

Want a really good dock with dual displays all of the toyz ? Choose between Targus and Toshiba (and I suspect both are the same dock, just is badge engineered by the manufacturer).

Only rationale I can think of for powerful small Windows tabs not emerging is the majors are afraid they will cut into netbook/notebook/desktop sales.

Hello ? It's called "evolution in action". (/rant)

I've had the same problem with my Iconia W3-810, the touch screen quit working.  I have sent the darn thing in twice already and not it quit again.  What a waste of money this was.  Worst piece of ***** ever.  I anyone is thinking of buying one, DON'T.
