W510: Sleep option disappear after new driver

Hi,

After updating with the newest driver/bios from Acer website (2.04/1.51), I noticed the sleep option disappeared from the system. If I run "powercfg -a", then it shows three modes are available "Standby (Connected), Hibernate, Fast Startup", but all others are not available (S1, S2, S3, Hybrid Sleep). Google mentioned some BIOS settings, but there's no such options in BIOS. Also some said about the driver... Anyone has similar problems?

This is a known problem. Recommend not updating to the latest firmware.

    Downgrade back to 1.0c BIOS...

I have the W511 without the keyboard.

I could not get it to sleep at all. Power button only allowed switching off. Sleep timeouts didn't stop it running all the time

When I ran powercfg -a, it indicated that the Huawei broadband hardware was not compatible with connected standby.

However, when in Device Manager, I uninstalled it and then rescanned (right-click on Network Devices and select recan option), the system found the device as a generic broadband device then identified it a the Huawei device.

    Since then, sleep works!

I would suggest that if anyone is having issues with connected standby, running powercfg -a will indicate whatever hardware is preventing it working.

Then you will have something specific to focus upon, rather than serially trying out every suggestion, most of which don't solve your specific problem, but could also create others.
