I have an aspire 5251-1513 with win7 home premium 64bit OS. It came with 2 gig and I'm trying to add a 4 gig memory stick. Win 7 recognizes it now has 5 gig, but won't use the 4 gig. I've tried find a place in bios to make a memory change but can't locate any place to do that. I've tried use the new 4GB stick by its sleep but the laptop won't boot up then. Anyone know how to get win7 to use this memory?

  • Hello,

You must have the same size of memory on each slot: 2x1 or 2x2 or 2x4Gb - 1066 or 1333MHz.

If you had tried with the memory stick of 4 Gb (1x4), it means it is not compatible or defective.

I tried with just the one 4GB stick but then the pc wont boot at all.  Putting the 1 gb stick in with the 4gb stick, win7 finds it but wont use it. Also BIOS finds it. TAlso ran diapnostics on the memory and it said no defects.  I'm guessing it is compatible and not defective.  I'll have to tradein the 4GB stick and get 2 - 2GB sticks to try your suggestion.  Thanks.

I am waiting for a couple of 2 GB sticks to arrive. I'm exchanging the 4 GB stick for them
Will let you know if they work after I try them.

    Hi AGD1,

Did your laptop have an opening panel with lid to easily access the RAM module slot? I have ES1-512 that came witha 2GB RAM. I wanted to replace the module witheither a 4GB or 8GB one. But I cannot access the slot itself, since there is now opening at the back. Pl share your thoughts.

    Thanks

My acer 5251-1513 has a cover over the memory slot. You may need to remove the whole bottom or the keyboard top to access the memory slots.
