To force turn off the computer, you can hold the power button for about 5 seconds, or hit the reset hole right on the center bottom, between the speakers.

To fix the issue, I would recommend to refresh or reset Windows, if youre running Windows with working recovery system, or just use the recovery DVDs if youre using the default partition with Acer's broken recovery partition.

If holding the power button for 10 seconds or longer doesn't shut it down, the power button itself is likely broken. Talk with Acer support if you are still within warranty. You can always force a shutdown within the OS as well. Swipe in the carm bar from the right edge, touch the Settings gadget, then on the Power Button icon. Choose Shut Down from the menu.

I had the same issue, the unit failed to start, and was just showing the acer logo and the spinning circle dots. It woulnt turn off despite holding powerbutton for more than 10 seconds.

The powerbutton is not faulty, because it works well in other cases.

Using the small reset button at at the bottom frame was the only thing that worked.
