I am trying to restore my Acer Iconia W510 to factory settings so that I can sell it but it gets as far as the keboard layout screen & will not respond to anything. There is no cursor & the touch screen is unresponsive too.

If I try to restore it off the keyboard it wont work as it needs to be attached to my external hard drive which has the restore files.

Best bet is to use a USB hub to allow a keyboard, mouse and drive to be connected simultaneously. I ran into this helping a friend do a reset on her W3 last year. A powered hub is best, to keep the external drive from being short on power.

You're kidding me! I've got to buy a hub just to reset my tablet...Man that sucks.

No, you need to buy a powered hub for the tablet to be able to support multiple peripherals, particularly rotating media, reliably.

Tablets in general do not provide much USB power (the 2.0 spec. is 500 ma) and that is often not enough for things like a DVD burner. Particularly if the device came with a Y cord for extra power.

7 port 2A hub I mentioned is around U$14. If you wnt to use the tab as a desktop with dual monitors etc, you will need a dock and those are about 10x the price.

OK took the tablet to work, connected it to a powered hub & still the same thing when I tried to start it with the keyboard connected & the external hard drive powered by the powered hub. It gets to the choice of language screen & is unresponsive

When the tablet is connected via the micro USB to the powered hub with the external hard drive & a bluetooth keyboard it says it needs missing files (Which are on the external hard drive) even though I can find the external hard drive & the files from the folder menu.

    Getting really frustrated now!
