I purchased two of the same tablets; one for my Daughter and one for myself. The reason for this contact is that we inserted a 64GB Micro SD card into each Tablet last November. Everything was working fine until several months ago when both tablets stopped recognizing the SD cards and would no longer access the information we were attempting to install. We needed the extra memory for a particular App we were installing from the Google Store. Now the information is no longer accessible. It only acknowledges that the card is mounted and unmounted, but nothing else. I uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it, but the SD card was not an option for installing the information into the app. It only offers the internal memory for storage. Stranger still, this occurred on my daughters Tablet as well, around the same time and on hers all the downloaded information has been deleted. The App is there and the unused memory available, but not accessible or  usable. My tablet shows all the info still there under Settings/Storage, but not accessible.

At first I thought it was the SD Card, so I unmounted it, inserted it into my laptop and uploaded all the information of the app. Then I accessed the information that was uploaded and had no problem opening and utilizing the information. Then I decided to purchase another Micro SD card and insert it into the Tablet to see if the Tablet would allow me to install the same app and download the information. I reinstalled the app and wanted to designate the SD card for storage, and it was not an option! The tablet acknowledged the presence of an SD Card, but nothing else.

I need to know what can be done to resolve these issues. Apparently there is a defect in this model since we both developed the same problem around the same time.

Personally I would try a factory reset on your tablets. Unfotunately this means you will lose any data on the tablets so you would need to back your data up first.

If this (and a different memory card) doesn't fix your problem  then you have a hardware problem, if it does you have a software problem.

Your conclusion about a defect on the tablets is not necessarily correct - as you & your daughter are apparently running similar software setups then you may have a shared software problem.

First of all I would like to thank you for the detail provided in your post. It's truely amazing how often someone will post a question and forget to give us the model number, or even the OS type. However you forgot to menton the os version. I believe many of the A1-810 models recently received OS upgrades from Jelly Bean to KitKat. KitKat has more demanding restrictions on use of external store. If yours were upgraded I'd contact the software vendor to make sure they have KitKat support in their app. They may be able to provide you with a newer release of their software that handles the new restrictions.

I updated my A1-830 to 4.4.2 (Kitkat) and the SD card vanished!

To access it again I re-booted (power off/on) without the SD card, then inserted the SD card and all is well again.
