Iconia A1-830 OTG USB Host Issue

I bought an Iconia A1-830 refurbished.  I did the flash to 4.4.2 android using some app that Acer supplied.  The tablet will not recognize any device connected through the micro usb port (flash drive, keyboard, mouse) using a data cable.  I did not check to see if it worked before the OS upgrade.

Running app "USB OTG Checker" showed "Your Device OS has USB OTG API".  However, checking for a signal gives an error "System NOT Detect USB OTG Signal".  Running app "USB Host Check" shows "android.hardware.usb.host.xml - OK" - "handheld_core_hardware.xml - USB host not enabled" - "tablet_core_hardware.xml - Not found".  Attempting to FIX with "USB Host Check" gives error "Could not start su process".

The data cable works fine on another device, so I know it is good.  The USB port works fine for charging.  I don't know how to proceed from here.  Any suggestions?

    Interesting!
I can confirm that on 4.2.2 OTG worked, at least on my device.

    Since i don't have anymore the 830, probably there's a bug on 4.4 KK.
Another user is having your issue on the 810.

About SU errror, it's normal since your OS is stock and not rooted.

If I go back to the factory settings, will the bios revert to 4.2 so I can try it that way?  I know next to nothing about this stuff.

Nope, android never revert back to a previous version with factory reset; it just erase all your personal data/settings.

Well that pretty much sucks.  I wish they would have warned me that I was cutting off a major functionality.  I guess all I can do now is hope they decide to fix the bug?

if you are under warranty, you can give Acer support service a call and ask about the missing OTG support.

maybe they will open a bug report.

I just got a suggestion to use the original USB OTG Acer cable, tested (not me) with KK and 830, worked.

    Part Number
    50.L0KN5.001
    Description
CABLE USB A FEMALE TO USB B MICRO MALE 7IN. WHITE
    Part Number
    XZ.70200.194
    Description
CABLE USB A FEMALE TO USB B MICRO MALE BLK

    Edited with correct codes.

Did they use some kind of adapter to go from a male to a female end to receive devices?  I thought they were wired differently, like pin 5 and 7 shorted, or something for a data cable.
