I have an Aspire One D257-13404 Netbook that experiences the following error message at startup

Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller Series v1.24 (10/07/10)

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM.

No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

Anyone have any suggestions to correct it?

Thanks!

What is the HDD and how do you replace it?

The message Exiting Intel PXE Rom means that the computer was trying to boot from its network card and not the hard disk drive.

First verify the boot order set in the BIOS of the computer:
Restart the computer , Press F2 to enter BIOS Setup during Power-On Self-Test (POST), while the Acer logo is being displayed.
You need to check if  the hard disk name is displayed next to HDD model name in information tab.

If the hard disk  name is displayed you may go ahead ,  Use the right arrow key to select Boot, Refer to on screen instructions to set the first device to IDE0

Press the F10 key and then press the Enter key to save the changes and restart the computer.

  • Hi,

Its HARD DISK DRIVE, If your unit is under warranty you may contact support or contact any local store to replace the Hard Drive,.
