Iconia W3 won't shut down...

I am using an Iconia W3 in a docking station for a project at work.  The wifi reception isn't good on this tablet in the first place and in the dock its horrible. I have a USB wifi adaptor plugged in through a USB hub and it connects to the internet just fine with decent down/upload speeds. I thought I had my problem solved until I went to shut it down. With the USB network adaptor plugged in I get the "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart" error message. If I disconnect the network adaptor and then try, it shuts down no problem. I'm confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Since I've finally had a strong enough connection with my network adaptor, I upgraded to windows 8.1 and now everything shuts down properly. Thanks for the suggestions!

Pretty obviously something going on when the driver is unloaded during the shutdown process. It could be it's trying to leave the driver up for Wake On LAN functionality or something. Do you get the icon in your notifications that allows you to remove the device cleanly? Maybe you just need to do the remove before a shutdown. If not it'd be worthwhile to find the options available in the driver to see if there's some other function that we can shut down to aleviate the problem.

I'd look in Control Panel>Power Options>Change Plan Settings>Change Advanced Settings and make sure that USB settings are disabled and that SHUT DOWN is selected for Power Buttons and Lid>Power Button Action. Then go to Control Panel>Device Manager>Network Adapters>[your USB wireless adapter] (must be connected)>Properties>Advanced and make sure all "Wake on" selections (scroll down) are disabled.

That's a starter. I use an enGenius EUB9603H adapter when I need real wireless range on a tab.

I didn't have any luck. Under the advanced tab in the network adaptor properties there arent any options for WOL or anthing like that. The only thing that I changed was disabling Selective Suspend. When I shut down after this it worked and when I went to shut down again just to be sure it brought me right back to the BSoD. Im hoping this could be due to the network adaptor that im using being a few years old. I've ordered a newer one and I hope it works!

I'm thinking the drivers for the old adapter may not have understood the newer methods of suspending, and just stayed on because they didn't know what else to do.
