I followed your link but I don't understad what it's supposed to do. There is no mention of downloading to the PC at all. Can I just create a folder on the 830 and label it apps and download the app from the computer to this folder? I use Calibre to manage my ebooks and that program which is on my computer simple created a folder on my 830 and transfered the books on my computer to the folder on my 830 and labled it books. Since then I can transfer my books to that folder and the app FBreader finds them.

    thanks,

    Paul

It's a Chrome plugin that will help you to download an application (.APK) from google play to your PC, so you can manually install on your tablet.

you just need to copy the xxxxxx.apk file downloaded to you tablet and then (with a file manager) install it.

No thanks. I'm not installing some third party addon like that. I followed a link to the instructions and they still don't mention installing this app on my PC to let me download an app to the pc then install on my 830.

Is there any other method that doesn't have me exposing my Acer 830 and my PC to crashing and/or viruses?

It's not you I don't trust, besides they don't make the instructions clear enough. Do I install their app on my computer or the tablet. If I install it on the tablet how is that going to help me to download it to the PC, then transfer it to the tablet for installation?

you need to use Chrome or Firefox as browser on your PC, download that plugin and let it install on your browser.

this will permit you to download any application from Google Play to your PC as .apk (application extension valid to your android tablet).

then you connect your tablet to your pc via USB, copy the application to your tablet with file explorer.

then in your android tablet with a File manager, you can install the application to your tablet.

It's probably a easier to just install it on the tablet directly from Google Play instead of jumping through these hoops...
