Keys repeating ES1-511

I have been having an odd problem with a new (~2 month old) Aspire E-15 (ES1-511 COM4).

Sometimes (seems to be about 75% of the time) when I start up the machine the built-in keyboard repeats ALL keys. i.e. if I type 'a' I get 'aa.' This happens everywhere, including password fields which is very irritating.

It is obviously a problem with only the built-in keyboard, as a USB keyboard and even bluetooth keyboard works perfectly fine.

As noted, it is also intermittent. Sometimes I'll start the machine up and it has no problems at all. I've tried unplugging everything, shutting down completely, updating drivers, and even opening up the chassis to check the ribbon cable (looks fine).

Any ideas?

  • Have you checked in Control Panel/keyboard /repeat delay & repeat speed settings?

Hi there, and thanks for replying.

Yeah, I thought about that and even tried turning on filter keys to reject the dupes. It's not an issue with Windows settings.

My test results bear this out, since if it was a settings issue it would also happen with a USB/BT keyboard. It also happens in BIOS and other preboot screens.

I'm actually thinking it's not even a driver problem, but a hardware issue. I'd try replacing the keyboard, but this one doesn't look possible.
