Hi guys, this is my first post, I cant find the answer on a search so forgive me if it is here and I have missed it.

I have an Acer 5740g and I have added an external monitor. It runs Windows 7. The external display works fine but it is the same as the main monitor, I would like to multi task with the second monitor. Can someone please give me some idea on where i am going wrong.

You might change the behaviour of external monitor, now it's on clone, so everything is like the main monitor.

to set to Extend (like a single big monitor), right click on desktop and select "resolution), you will notice a dropdown menu labeled "multiple display", choose "extend these displays", click on Apply and OK

Hi, no tried that one as well. I do have the option of a HDMI cable or a D-SUB cable, they both do the same thing. I just hooked up my Acer Aspire 1 Notebook, as soon as you connect the 2nd screen the Multiple Displays Drop down options appear, it doesnt do that with my 5740G?

you must check if all the VGA drivers are installed correctly.

your 5740 is Aspire or Travelmate?
