Only use a microphone on the 4-pin 3.5mm headset output [Aspire R7 or similar]

Hi,

I own an Acer Aspire R7-572G which has a combined 4-pin 3.5mm headset jack.

I would like to use a normal microphone with an 3.5mm connector. The microphone did not work by directly plugging the connector into the socket, therefore I bought an adapter which splits the 4-pin output into speaker & microphone sockets.

Now the microphone does work properly, however, unless I am connecting external speakers I am not able to use the internal notebook speakers. (maybe because the notebook assumes that a headset is plugged in)

One more thing to mention: If I plug in the cable, a popup on the notebook appears asking which device I just plugged in. Sadly my only three options are "headphones", "speaker output" or "headset". NO MICROPHONE OPTION !!! argh... Robot Mad

The plug is designed to cut out the internal speakers.I don't think you can change it.

How about something like this:

I think you are right

I could not find any option for this problem in the sound settings or Realtek driver settings.

Well, most likely I will be using a pair of external speakers in the future ... this would be the most pleasant solution for me.

If i remember, in the realtek panel, on the top right will be a "folder" or a wrench, click that and you will find an option to activate internal speakers with a jack connected.

I know this setting from my desk computer.

Unfortunately I don't have this option with my current driver version on my Aspire R7. The following picture shows you the only popup which appears on clicking the folder icon.
