Acer aspire e1

Acer aspire that I bought November 2013 running windows 8.1 quit all of a sudden.  Was working fine last night, didn't update or install anything. Today when in tried to turn on it booted to the Acer screen, beeped and went black. On the black screen I can use the mouse, it recognizes the keyboard and beeps if I plug anything in to it.

I have rebooted numerous times, have pressed f2 to change boot settings and have removed and replaced battery. Nothing works.  From reading it sounds like maybe its my hard drive???

Also if it is my hard drive, is there any way I can get Windows software without buying it again?

Thanks,

Garret

What happen if you press ctrl+shift+esc on the black screen with mouse pointer?

    Thanks for the reply.

The only thing that happens is I get the "thinking wheel" by the mouse for a second.

    Not good not good.

Did you do the media recovery from Acer erecovery?

if so, you can boot from it and try to repair your installation or load the last working configuration (if enabled).

if not, try to press F8 or shift+F8 at boot and check if Windows can boot in safe mode.

I haven't done the erecovery.  Was hoping I would be able to save some of the things from my harddrive before erasing it. Most important stuff is saved- but there are a few files I would like to have that aren't backed up.

Also I don't have access to another computer right now as I have just moved for an elective.

I'll try to reboot it when I get home.

Any ideas on getting material off the harddrive before recovering it??

    Thanks for all the help

Paragon Rescue Kit can boot to a screen where you can plug in an external hard drive make folders from a GUI and then start the  backup process. There are other recovery disk kits you can burn as well to boot to a GUI to backup stuff onto an external drive.

So I used UBUNTU live usb to gain access to my harddrive. Saved all the files and then tried to do the erecovery.  It just says unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing.

Any ideas on how to get past this?
