What audio plug (#1 or #2 in the picture) does my Aspire One A0725 laptop need to feed stereo audio out and mono audio in (or is it also stereo in).   See the picture at the following Dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/mini plug.jpg .

If that is the audio out.  Were is the microphone input?  Or does this laptop only have the built in microphone and no capability of feeding an external audio signal in?  If it doesn't have an external audio in jack.  I can always add one.

If it can use an external microphone and has only one 3.5 connector, the choice is #2

That doesn't answer the question.   The question is.   Is the single 3.5mm audio connector both audio in/out or audio out only.  The oners manual doesn't state which models have which.  I have found online refrences to, 2 diffrent models of the  Aspire one A0725.  1 has the optical drive built in. The other doesn't.   Thats the main thing

You can try to look inside the connector with a flashlight and check if it has 3 leafs.

No other way since i can't find any reference too or hope in some A0725 owner.

I can't tell by looking in the hole even with a lighted magnifying lamp.  The lamp did show up a tiny headphones with a boom microphone printed on the case next to the hole that I didn't see before.  It is probly #2 in the drawing.  But I don't know the layout of the plug.  My portable dvd player with built in screen takes the same type of plug for the video and stereo audio out.  But the only cord of that type that Radio Shack carrys is wired wrong for the dvd player.  I did find a very interesting adapter at  http://www.vetco.net/   electronic parts store that will do the job.  Look at part number VUPN8203.  With this adapter it doesn't matter what the plug layout is.  It can be wired to fit.

    Nice adapter!

i hope someone has some schematics, to be honest i would try with a mobile phone headset/mic and test if it works.

I don't have any mobile phone headset/mic with that kind of plug on it.  The only mobile phone headset/mic I have is setup for 2 jacks side by side with the headphone a 3.5mm plug and the mic a 2.5mm plug.  And my stereo headset/mic for my main computer won't work eather. It has 2 separate 3.5mm plugs for headphones and mic.  I have to wait until around next Wed when I get a $85. refund check in the mail (if I have anything left after bills).   Or wait until Oct 1 when I get my next SSDI check before I can buy anything to fix this little problem.  It also meens I can't do any digital transmit  (rtty, psk31, slow scan tv and so on) until I rig up new interface cables for the sound card.  My old 2nd laptop bit the dust (a mother board problem).  If the Aspire just had 2 jacks for in and out then the audio cables I have now would work.

By the way I could make a 2nd jack for the mic input.  But I don't want to destroy the value of the laptop by jerry rigging.  I used to fix 2 way radios, tv's and vcr's for a living.
