Hello all. I have an emachines em350. Because the price of ssd's are reasonable now, I was contemplating fitting one to my netbook. Does anyone know the maximum size that this netbook will take?

Also if someone could confirm what revision of sata this thing has ie I, II or III?

And, lastly, I'm running xp. No rescue partition but I can image system partition and hope to transfer the existing system, then later the data partition. I have read about a paragraph on partition alignment, ssd and xp. It sounds fairly straight forward but if anyone has some personal experience or advice that would be great.

  • I've seen up to 480 GB, but I would think 240 would be more than enough. Are you aware Microsoft has completely stopped supporting XP?

Thank you for that. Yes, I've never used up the 160gb it has, so 256 will be stacks. It is either 128 or 256 so I'll err on the side of caution if I go ahead. The first good deal I see, which won't be long.

As far as xp goes, it isn't a problem on the netbook. All it means is no security updates. And, it runs fast the way I have it setup (lean and mean). It does all I need it too. I did try to edit raw photos on it while travelling and it wasn't up to the task, but that is a hardware limitation. I also found that the display is too small for photo editing.
