GPS was working for all apps that need location(weather, maps....) some two weeks ago. I then had a problem with some metro apps.(like yandex maps, weather, fitness....) I uninstalled and reinstalled them. I open my maps app and it cant even search for my location. I tried other map apps and the results are the same. In some, the GPS link is grey(meaning i cant use it).I'm then prompted to enter the location myself. I really need the GPS to work again because i am always moving about!

AmI the only one with this problem??please help

    Hi there,

As the fault just happened few days ago i would suggest running a system restore.

Try restoring the machine from the date when GPS is still working.

If its able to fix the problem.. fault happened because of a new update from one of your software on the machine.

I think you are mistaken, as I don't see any information that says the R7 has any GPS capabilities.  Not only have I never encountered that spec, but a search of "Acer R7 GPS" just now yielded no meaningful results.

I am sure others can give you more detailed info, but I suspect you have unintentionally blocked outside sources from accessing your machine's location.  It does this by using wifi and ISP info, not GPS.

sorry...i might sound a little dum now.. but what is ISP?? All i know is that it could track my location some weeks ago and it cant track it anymore. I tried looking at the apps that i give permission to use my location and they are all turned on.((

That would be your Internet Service Provider.  I should have actually specified that is the IP address that is used.

I did a search on "computer location is wrong windows 8" since that is what the autofill gave me.  I found that there is the Windows Location Provider.  Searching that, I found this:

    http://www.trishtech.com/2012/09/turn-off-windows-location-provider-in-windows-8/

Go there and simply turn it on if it is now off.

I tried the methhods on the link...thought i could only use the third one because run couldnt find gpedit and i couldnt find the registry key that was indicated in the link. After doind method three, i restarted the pc but its still the same.((
