Aspire v5-171 needs new hard drive. How can I load Windows 8 on it with no key?

My v5-171 is due for an SSD upgrade.  The system did not come with a restore disk.  It has no CD drive, so anything I do will be USB bootable.  I understand that the Windows key is embedded into the BIOS.  I do not have any ACER software on this laptop as all of it was removed at purchase, including the eRecovery Manager.  This mean I cannot create a backup.  I do not really want to do an image clone, I prefer a fresh install.  So...

How can I fresh install Windows 8 onto a new hard drive for this laptop, with no eRecovery, no recovery disk, and a Key that is embedded?

  • Even if you had the key, there is no dowloadable copies of Windows 8 available.You would need a disk.

I grabbed the key with a Keyfinder utility, however I need the OEM install image.  I tried the Microsoft site install, and it does not allow me to use my key.  Is my only option the manufacturer recovery disk?

  • A recovert disk or use macrium reflect free or another program to make a backup or image and install the SSD with it.

    Hi there,

All Acer computers right now doesnt have a recovery disc with them as the system itself is capable of creating its own original recovery disc or drive [recovery via USB] its an option on the recovery management.

I think there is also a promt about this that machine will ask you to create a recovery disc or drive when you first set up the machine.

if the user forgot to create a recovery disc or drive and the system fails they need to contact acer for free reimaging [If still in warranty]

But if the customer upgraded the system or HDD and forgot to create a back up [recovery disc or drive] as far as i knw Acer is not covering this issues regardless if the unit is still in warranty or not as they are not supporting upgrades on their products.

You can try calling they support like for further assistance.
