Acer S5 Magic Flip - Grinding Sound 24/7?

Family Friend is having issues with her Acer S5, so I'm posting here.

Her problem began about 10 days ago.  Whether or not the keyboard is raised, the motor that operates the Magic Flip continues to run, making a grinding irregular sound and a low grade vibration in the keyboard.  She's kept a USB drive in one of the ports in fear of that it will suddenly stop working while closed.  The sound drives me nuts.

I haven't seen the computer in person yet, but I was thinking it was possible it was the sound of the fan, but she makes it sound like it's a much worse sound, which has been attributed to the Magic Flip motor.

If so, could a mom and pop computer repair shop replace this, or given that it is sorta a specialized item, would I have to send it off to Acer?

Any idea how much it would cost to fix? She's open to just getting a new computer.

Probably the motor that moves the mechanism can't stop rotating creating the vibrating sound.

I think it's better to contact the Acer service support.

it's out of warranty, unfortunately. Fee-based support could rack up some charges, but I guess it's worth a try. I wish I could find a local mom and pop shop to look at it.

You can try in a local repair shop, maybe they can find the hardware issue and have an oem replacement.
