Asking a thin laptop for high performance?

Now using Aspire 5745G, i3-370cpu, 4GBram, 250GBhdd, Win7x64, Home

I travel and would like less bulk, but much, much more performance to handle photo software and three big data sets in Excel as well as the usual day to day stuff.  A 15.6 screen would be a minimum ask.

I am getting weary of the waits with this current laptop, though overall Acer Aspire has done well through a few model upgrades.

Is asking for super performance from a thin laptop the wrong question?  What models?

Thank you.

Phil

You'd think that more companies would build high performance, Ultrabook-thin, laptops with a 15.6" screen...but the selection is rather limited.  Samsung builds a couple of high-performance models that would probably satisfy your needs: the ATIV book NP940X5J-K02US (256 GB SSD) and the NP940X5J-K01US (128GB SSD) are two of the prettier ones I've seen that are super-thin and lightweight but...both are in the $2000+ price range.  For about half that price ($1100-1200) you could get an Acer V7-582PG-7648 that would deliver superior performance and be just as dependable if not more so - plus, it weighs less than 5lbs.  Eventually I plan to replace my aging desktop with something exactly like you describe.
