micro sd card question

I have an Acer iconia w3-810 32-bit tablet.

I inserted a 32GB micro sd card to supplement the storage capacity.

Question :

1. When my C drive is full, will all subsequent items be stored in my sd card ?

2. Is there a setting that will make all 3rd party programs that I will installed be saved automatically to my sd card, starting now ?

Screenshot of my current C: and my sd card.

When you go to install almost any Desktop application you will be given the option of installing to an alternate location. If you plan on always having the SD card inserted you can install the application to it instead of C:. Likewise you can save your documents there as well easily enough. Also if you put media files on your system you can place them on the SD as well. It's just complex to make that all the default...

I am under the impression that a micro sd card is to supplement the storage capacity.

If that is not true, then what is the sd card used for and how ?

Hey, I did a search and found some help here.

Since the W3 came out over a year ago, most of your questions were answered in 2013. So you have to search back to that time. The search engine is very good compared to most support sites.

    Thank you for the links.

I still don't know what can I do with the sd card added to the tablet.

    Need further elaboration.

    Thank you.

First I partition all of my machines into "C" (program) and "D" (data) drives. If I cannot partition I use SUBST. When loading new programs I configure them to store data on "D" (most are easy but have to configure each OFFICE element individually). I have .ISOs and program disks for most of  "C" and use XXCOPY for the rest inc. "Users" and "Program Files" directories.

I use this method because there are many computers and some directories (like MUSIC) are common to all but is most definately not for someone who wants a one-button backup.

    MY comments.

This is to say you have to consider the SD card as Drive "D:" Also means you will always need to have a D: inserted.

Then go into each program and configure it to store data on your D: Most programs will create the needed directories on D: when you ask it to. BUT you may need to make some directories.

Do this for Excel,Word,PowerPoint, one note, browser(download), media player, photo software, email, etc, any softawre that you want to use D: instead of C: for data storage.

Untill I have found better ways to make use of the sd card, this is what I have done....

    1. Drag and drop my personal files to the sd card.So far a whooping collection of 3 pictures. OnrDrive or DropBox will also help.

    2. Since I have the recovery disks ( came with the tablet ), and it has been upgraded to Win 8.1, I deleted the "old installation files. aka windows.old ) That gave me back about 2+ GB. Now I have 13GB out of 29 to play with in C: drive.

    3. Keep my installed programs to the minimum..... CCleaner, Auslogics, Malwarebytes, MS Office. That should be enough for a light-duty tablet/pc. For heavy lifting, I'll use my laptops.

    Wish I went for a 64GB version.

Thank you. I had read that. from the links you gave me.

No. It's too complicated for a "casual use" tablet.

    But, thanks anyway.
