I've tried uninstalling and installing the driver. I only get sound from the headphones. The speakers never worked from the beginning, so I don't know if it is a hardware problem. I was just never fixed it under warranty. Does anyone know how to fix this?

When I check under control panel, I can only view the speakers and not headphones. I'm not sure if the headphones are supposed to be listed.

  • In Sound/playback devices, have you made the speakers default?

The speakers are set as the default.

  • Try some other Acer sound drivers. I have an Acer laptop that only came with Ein 8 that Acer doesn't support win 7 on and some of the Wifi drivers I tried said the device was working fine, but I could not connect.By trying driver after Driver I eventually found the one that actually worked. If your headphones plug in the sound port you probably don't have hardware problems. Are your headphones USB? They have their own driver separate from sound I believe

    Ok.

First of all download this file:

    http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php/downloads/func-startdown/772/

    it's a 100% trusted website for drivers,

once downloaded, double click on the .exe (it's an auto-extract package that will unpack the drivers), but DON'T launch the "setup.exe"

    then

uninstall from "program & features" any installed Conexant driver

from the "device manager" list, right click on the "Conexant high definition audio" and choose "uninstall"

now it's time to reboot your OS

Now browse where you extracted the downloaded files and double click on "setup.exe", install the drivers and reboot when finished.

let me know if this worked, on "control panel" probably you will have a new icon for Conexant audio settings.

    Thanks for the help.

I did the steps you told me to. When I reboot the OS, Windows 7 automatically trys to find a driver for the audio. It downloads a Windows version of the driver (it does not work either). I'm not sure how to stop it from auto detecting and installing the driver. I went ahead and uninstalled that driver and tried to use the driver that you suggested I download.

    I get an error message:

Driver Installation Failed. Could not find the device for this driver.

Don't uninstall the Microsoft drivers and try to install the Conexant driver, if this doesn't work, download and install this Conexant package:

It may be a hardware issue. I'm guessing the micro switch in the headset plug is bad or the connection from the motherboard to the speakers. I may have to open it up or buy external speakers.
