Hello all, Hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to fix a friends acer aspire 6930 laptop. she tried to do a erecover of her current hadr drive and nothing would happen for hours after software was reloaded. She took to Geek squad and all they could do was to sell her a nes HD and told her to try reloading her back up discs. That didn't work either. So I bought the recovery discs from acer and tried to install. The installation looked to be going pretty well untill I get to the part where it says " windows need to finish installing programs to computer and then I waited over 24 hours while screen is just light green with a swirley circle going round and round. This is a recovery attempt of vist 64 bit

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

As a computer repairman , I've worked with this particular model of laptop quite often and I can tell you that a few units I have looked at did not want to restore properly. It could be the motherboard that is the culprit or the restore process has gone awry

Did all the discs load sucessfully and and it proceeded to rebuild the hard drive?

Does the laptop feel abnormally hot while Windows is reinstalling the drivers and other components during the restore?

Check for overheating of the laptop or an abnormally hot AC Adapter. Those are proof that a unit could be failing or about to.

Thanks for the reply bearpaw, I just tried a third attemp to restore this new hard drive. I formatted the drive using my desktop with a drive reader adapter. This time software installed and when it gets to part to restart

I get a black screen from Boot Manager

"windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix problem :

    1. insert your Windows installation disc and restrat computer

    2. Choose your language setting, then click next

    3. click repair your computer

If you do not have the disc, contact computer mfgr for assistance

    File :\BOOT\BCD

    Status :0xc0000225

Info: error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data

Should I try to reload software again ?

Can you check the disks on the bottom. Does the discs you recieved look like it's been burned on a DVD Burner or does the discs have a silver platter bottom for the surface of the disc?

If it looks burned, it could be that you received a bad set of discs.

Also if you replaced the hard drive, make sure to see if any jumper pins exist on the hard drive and if they do make sure the drive pin configuration is set to master.

If your continually getting errors, there could be a problem with your optical drive not communicating properly with the motherboard.

You may have to send it to Acer for examination but since you mentioned Vista its obvious its past the warranty,

There could be other hardware factors as well that are affecting this unit.
