Aspire M5 Speakers port/ jack doesn't work :(

Early this year I purchased an Acer Aspire M-583P-6637 with windows 8 , sadly in less than 2-3 months of use I realized that there is something wrong with the sound ports. Upon inserting a headphone pin the sound continues to come from the laptop and not through the headphones! iv tried various headphone combinations, It's as if the system doesn't want to recognize the headphones. I want to add, that initially the headphone/ jack/system was working fine, there has been no damage to the laptop, did not fall/ no water spillage etc. Can someone help?

- thanks

HI, can you check if any "Yellow exclamation mark" is present on Device manager?

Expecially under "sound, video game controller"

    press Windows key + X

    select device manager

if there's a "yellow exclamation mark" double click it, click on "details" tab, from the drop down menu select "HardwarID", highlight the first value and copy/paste here.

Check also on "Sound" playback device, connect your headphones, rigth click on the speaker icon on the bottom right of your screen, select "playback devices"

    Did headphones appear?

    Hi!

I tried the stuff you recommended, I don't see a yellow symbol under sound control, but there is this message that I can see when I click on 'high definition audio device' (ref: attached image). Also when I insert my headphone and do a right click I can see Speaker(HD audio device) and Digital Audio (S/pdif), but no headphones.

Uhh... i attached it in the previous message but this is what it reads:

High definition audio device properties-> General(tab)-> Device status -> "this device is not working properly"

Interestingly, the status remains the same..with or without the headphones. Smiley Frustrated

I saw the screenshot but i read "the device work properly", so it's ok.

If your Win8 is 64bit, can you try to install this Realtek sound drivers?

Hello, seems like the issue is back again, the headphones jack/port worked for les than a week and now it's back to the original issue.

    Yes ok.

Realtek sound disappeared again, this is really strange behaviour.

I would try to uninstall all the sound device, right click uninstall, reboot the OS and re-install Realtek drivers that you already downloaded.

The music files don't play on my system at all, post realtech installation.

Did you reboot after Realtek drivers installation?

Right click on the speaker icon near the Date&Time, click on playback devices and check if Realtek Speakers are the default.
