if I upgrade my acer aspire 5552-7803 to a Seagate ST1000LM014 SSHD will I see a speed increase even though the laptop is ATA-300 ? The faster hard drives have always helped my desktops. Anyone upgrade their Acer ATA-300 to a faster hard drive ?

Do you need that much space? If not I'd go pure SSD. The Crucial MX100 is a great drive for speed and price. Yes, you will be at SATA II speeds, but it will be much faster than your current drive.

Those are my options. SSD vs SSHD $500 vs $100. I guess the question is how much fast will the two drives be. I only have ATA-300 and a quad-core. The drive light is on all day long.

Has anyone actually installed ne or the other and can tell me the results.

    Thanks,

    Harry

When I hear "the hard drive light is always lit" I think more memory, or bad rogue program.

An SSD will always be faster than the hybrid hdd.

Don't worry about SATA300. A SATA600 drive can't use all the bandwidth of a SATA600 interface anyhow. It will use ALL of your SATA300 bandwidth and reward you kindly. It's not all about those numbers you read. Forget read/write speeds. Its how quick it gets to the file. No drive to spin and seek any more. SSD is like now! If you don't have one yet, treat yourself. You'll never go back. Enjoy -Jim.

Its just cost right now. maybe in thre months. I have an SSD in a desktop and it does fly. I was thinking the hybrid to save a few dollars, but know it will not be as fast as a ssd. Thanks
