Aspire E 14 aka E5-411-P32N touchpad issues

I just bought this machine and noticed right away how poorly the touchpad behaves. It lags, jumps all around, moves as soon as I position it, highlights everything without me even trying to, etc. I have looked high and low for the right drivers and nothing seems to work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, been to all kinds of forums and of course Acer is NO HELP AT ALL. Windows 8.1 is irritating enough without this added hassle.

So is this a Windows 8.1, a Synaptics, or an Elantech issue? Where do I find any information because Acer is no help and neither is the vendor.

HELP! Thanks in advance for any suggestions, pointers or tips. I would really appreciate it.

Are you like me? For some reason, I can't use a touchpad reliably. So I don't. I simply disabled it.

I am used to using a touchpad and there is no reason why this one shouldn't work properly. There is no place to configure it and no tab for the touchpad in the Mouse applet in Control Panel. The label next to the touchpad says Precision Touchpad, but that's a joke, right?

Have you checked device mgr for any errors or warnings esp in the mouse and HID sections?

No errors or warnings in Device Mangler. Also checked Event Viewer - nothing in System or Hardware Events.

ATTENTION Acer techs! Please attend to this rampant touchpad issue. Many, many complaints keep coming in.

    Hi d0g,

can you please check in device manager, what's under "mice"?:

    windows key+X

    device manager

    Mice and other compliant

if you find HID compliant mouse, please double click it, go to "details" tab, from the drop down menu choose "hardwareID", copy/paste here.

Like the other post you read it:

Touchpad is Synaptics and col01 is not a good thing.

I will double check it but must end with col04 to have the correct drivers installed.

Thanks, IronFly. I also looked under Human Interface Devices - Synaptics HID Device:

    HID\VEN_SYN&DEV_1B7B&Col04
    HID\SYN1B7B&Col04
    HID\*SYN1B7B&Col04
    HID_DEVICE_UP:FF00_U:0001
    HID_DEVICE_UPR:FF00-FFFF
    HID_DEVICE

    There's the Col04...

Which drivers Win8.1 uses under this device?

    The Synaptics driver is:

    Windows\system32\DRIVERS\SynRMIHID

    ver. 18.1.2.1

    2/20/14

No apology necessary! Thanks very much for your efforts. Now if only Acer would pursue some due diligence, I might get some kind of resolution.

If you just bought this new, it is under warranty.  Accordingly, I would start bugging Acer pronto on the chatline or phone by clicking the support button at the top of this page until the issue is resolved.
