new PC doesn't recognise GPU after installing win7 on a PC that was originally win 8.1 I j

Hi everyone;

I just bought a new pc with windows 8 on it, an Acer Aspire TC-605, formatted the HD and installed windows 7 which I prefer. But now it doesn't recognise my GPU, a geforce gt705 1Gb card that came with the computer. All I get from device manager and GPU-Z is the normal VGA adapter info. However AIDA64 sees the card so I guess it's connected ok. Besides, it's what my monitor is plugged into, and it's working, just not very well.

I've tried installing various nvidia drivers (320.49, 331.82) but the installations fail because 'this graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

I've tried dxdiag and it only shows 'standard VGA graphics adapter'.

I've also run Geforce experience 2.1 but it 'could not find a driver for this PC', whatever that means.

I've also visited the nvidia drivers page but it doesn't see my GPU either.

I've seen suggestions to look in the bios but I see nothing about GPUs there.

I'm not plugged into the motherboard by mistake as there's only one VGA socket and that's on the video card. I'm going through the card, but only in simplest default mode if I understand right.

Cheers, really hope someone can help!
