S3-391 bios - limited editable options

When I first got the S3 Ultrabook last year, I was able to enter the bios settings and made changes. Specifically to device boot order and set/clear bios passwords. Having a bios password that was rarely used made it easily lost. I managed to clear the bios password as per the Aspire S3 MS2346 Service Guide.

I can now access the bios settings again. However, it will only allow me to set the Time and Date, and a HD password. All other options are disabled, including the ability to use F12 to select a boot drive. My OS is pretty messed up right now so I need to boot from a USB stick and reinstall.

My bios version is 1.15. Upgrade to 1.29 is possible but only after I have a working OS.

So is there any way to re-enable bios options for edit? Specificially, enable F12 boot drive selection?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

That is all that I'm able to suggest.  I can't think of any reason why a normally flashed BIOS would exhibit these issues.

    Remove any passwords in BIOS.

    Reset the BIOS to defaults.

If you still have issues, contact your local Acer service center so that they can take a look and correct anything that might be needed.

    Hi,

Thank you for the quick reply and I apologize for linking to stolen material.

Unfortunately, I have used F9 numerous times to restore default settings without any effect on available bios options.

Are you resetting then saving and exiting? or just hitting F9 while in BIOS?

And you have removed all of the passwords?

Yes, all 3 passwords are 'Clear' in the Security section.

I used F9, then F10, then [Yes] to save changes and exit.

Laptop reboots, got back into BIOS and see no additional options enabled Smiley Sad

disabling the horrible secure boot feature unlocks the F12 menu on my acer laptop (v5-573G). overall, the available features are just horribly lacking. there is basically only time and boot order you can set. it is one of the worst BIOS out there and i already complained at tech support about this.

there are hacked bios out there that enable the hidden options, though newer models are locked by some  security feature acer invented, to lock out everyone who tries. DID I BUY AN APPLE OR WHY CANT I DO ** WITH MY LAPTOP!?

srsly acer, Give us a proper bios, we paid for it after all!
