Absolutely new to this and looking for some help.

I have recently acquired a Packard Bell PC for my grandson to use and wanted to upgrade the Windows OS to Windows 7 I got with my Acer laptop.

I ran the 4 discs I created from my Acer laptop and after starting Windows 7 for the first time( i.e. Setup is preparing your computer for first use), I am stuck at the point where the PC is "installing Dritek Launch Manager". It just keeps installing and never completes.

These are the same discs I would use to recorer Windows on my Acer laptop Aspre 5749.

Can anybody please advise what is wrong?

    Hello FraserP,

The Windows 7 of your laptop is an OEM pre-installed version (your erecovery media). It works only with your motherboard. They are linked.

That will not work with the PB computer.

    Microsoft OEM Partner Center:

"Generally, an end user can upgrade or replace all of the hardware components on a computer—except the motherboard—and still retain the license for the original Microsoft OEM operating system software. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created. Microsoft OEM operating system software cannot be transferred to the new computer, and the license of new operating system software is required. If the motherboard is replaced because it is defective, you do not need to acquire a new operating system license for the PC as long as the replacement motherboard is the same make/model or the same manufacturer's replacement/equivalent, as defined by the manufacturer's warranty."

    Thanks your response.

Didn't realise this.  I thought when you bought the laptop, you bought the Winows 7 OS with it that you could use on any lapytop/PC you owned.

    Much appreciated.
