    Hello,

I have really good news for the Acer Liquid E2 users. MediaTek will release Android 4.4 KitKat drivers for the MediaTek MT6589 SoC.

    What is the MT6589?

The Acer Liquid E2 and E3 use the MT6589 System-on-a-chip (SoC) from MediaTek. This SoC is a small motherboard.

Why does Acer has something to do with MediaTek? Acer develops the software, right?

No, Acer doesn't completely develops the software by themselves. They need drivers from the SoC manufacturer to support components like the graphics card, sound card and so on. Without those drivers, they can't develop software containing a new Android version. They also can't use drivers made for an older Android version.

What does the release of Android 4.4 KitKat drivers mean for the Liquid E2 users?

The fact that MediaTek releases KitKat drivers for the MediaTek MT6589 SoC means Acer can develop an Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for the Acer Liquid E2 and the Acer Liquid E3 (they use the same SoC). It depends on Acer if they will develop the Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for the Acer Liquid E2 or not. Acer has announced that they are going to develop the Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for the Acer Liquid E3. But will they develop the ROM for the Liquid E2 too? As we say here in Holland: Time will tell. In other words, we'll have to wait.

    yep we can wait...

But we can be angry not having a kk update soon.

Liquid E2 is a good and not so old phone, pretty the same specs as Liquid E3.

Liquid E2 was released on may/June 2013 exactly like Iconia A1-810 tablet and this one just come to KK.

some other brand like Micromax, announced KK to their MT6589 phones and Acer don't ...

    I feel just sad.

I don't believe there is going to be a KitKat upgrade for the E2. The E3 doesn't come with KitKat but Acer have stated that it will be available before year end. Given that they've not officially stated it is coming to the E2 and they don't sell the E2 any more, I very much doubt the E2 will be getting a KitKat update.
